Over the last two years, BWH has driven a variety of initiatives to successfully attract and hire more than 700 registered nurses to join the hospital's talented nursing team. Since the start of this fiscal year (October 1, 2001) and as of September 1, 2002, BWH recruited 295 nurses, of which 217 are experienced nurses. Of the 78 new graduates hired, 37 were internal promotions, predominantly PCAs who completed nursing school.
"Due to a concerted effort of employee referrals and attaining many of the goals set forth by our recruitment steering committee, BWH has successfully attracted and hired a diverse group of highly skilled men and women to fill vital nursing roles," said Regina Cullen, one of BWH's two nurse recruiters.
In addition to many employee referrals, job fairs and a strong presence at various professional conferences have worked to spread the word on the many specialized nursing opportunities at BWH.
The next on-site job fair is slated for late October (more details will be provided in the October issue of BWH Nurse). For more information on recruitment efforts or nursing opportunities at BWH, contact Cullen (617-732-5562) or Leona Martin (617-525-3124).
