Marsha Tahquechi, BSN, CNM, has been named BWH’s 2002 Diversity Fellow and assistant nurse manager of cultural diversity. Tahquechi, who has spent most of her nursing career in her native state Oklahoma, is part Comanche and part Mohawk Indian. She has served as a certified nurse midwife for the Indian Health Services, a federally funded program organized under the Department of Health and Human Services.
In her new role at BWH, Tahquechi will be continuing to build the fellowship’s original programs such as the Minority Mentorship Program and the Diversity Grand Rounds. Additionally, Tahquechi aims to construct a Diversity Web page for the Department of Nursing and develop clinical core competencies in cultural diversity.
“This position provides me with a great opportunity to expand ourcultural initiatives and send the message to our new graduates that BWH is eager to build a diverse staff,” Tahquechi said.
