BWH hosted a special luncheon for newly licensed nurses on August 15. The event was a way to welcome new hires and thank them for choosing to begin their nursing careers at BWH.
“The socialization of the newer nurse is vital,” said Jim Roche, RN, nurse-in-charge, Float Pool, and coordinator of the luncheon. Roche is a member of the Central Nursing Resource Team, a group of nurses and administrators led by Nancy Hickey, RN, director of Personnel and Resource Applications, Nursing Administration, who have taken on the challenge of strategizing and proactively responding to critical nursing issues, such as staffing, recruitment and retention.
“We all need to know that we are a valued addition to this health care system and are supported and challenged in this new role,” Roche said. “What better way to display our appreciation for the dedication and commitment of these nurses than to host a welcome event.”
In addition to the newly hired nurses, several nurse managers, recruiters and administrators attended the luncheon. The group was welcomed by Matthew Van Vranken, chief operating officer, and Robert Goldszer, MD, associate chief medicalofficer. Nancy Kruger, vice president, Patient Care Services and chief nursing officer, also offered congratulations and best wishes to the new hires.
“This is one event in a series to celebrate the pride and success of our nursing team and to thank them for their role in building BWH’s reputation as a top hospital,” said Hickey.
