Samuels Honored at AAN’s Annual Meeting
Martin A. Samuels, MD, chairman of the Department of Neurology, received the 2007 H. Houston Merritt Award from the American Academy of Neurology (AAN). He will accept the award and deliver the Merritt lecture at the Presidential plenary session of the ANN’s annual meeting in Boston in May. This is the second award Samuels has received from the AAN during the past two years. He also was honored with the A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurological Education in San Diego last April.
This award, presented every other year, recognizes significant contributions to clinical research in the field of Neurology. Samuels’ research focuses on neurocardiology and how the brain affects the heart’s structure and function. His work has advanced knowledge of neurogenic heart disease and has major implications for the more general field of neurogenic visceral damage.
