BWH Bulletin's year-end issue is a time to highlight BWHers' proudest moments from the past year. We asked you to share one BWH-related memory from 2014 that was meaningful to you, and you offered touching stories about colleagues, patients, families, events and milestones that inspired you. We hope you enjoy these moments.
Getting Back On My Feet, Thanks to BWH
Folks who have known me during my 44 years at BWH may not be surprised that I consider having a total knee replacement a "shining moment." To be honest, the surgery itself was not much fun, and the recovery takes time and is not easy. But my experience with this pretty big operation at BWH truly reminds me of why I have worked here so long and why I am so proud to be a member of the Brigham family.
If there was a group I could call "My Shining Moments," it would include Gregory Brick, MD, my kind and terrific orthopedic surgeon, and his awesome team, including his wonderful physician assistant, Mei Xu, and administrative assistant, Christine Talbot. Also, thank you to my beloved primary care physician, Jennifer Kaufman, MD, who got me ready for this surgery. My unbelievable nurses on the Pavilion on Tower 16, including Cortney Greene, RN, who was so compassionate and caring and spent hours making sure I was comfortable while recovering. I will never forget those folks.
I chose Partners Homecare in place of inpatient rehab, and currently, I am so fortunate to be working with Physical Therapy intern Meredith Drake, who gives me hope (along with some pretty challenging work) to achieve a 100 percent recovery. All of these BWH folks and more make me so proud to work here. I love the Brigham; I always have and always will. As I start my 45th year as manager of Office Services/Audiovisual, I just wanted to say that these folks ARE my "Shining Moments."
