BWH Bulletin's year-end issue is a time to highlight BWHers' proudest moments from the past year. We asked you to share one BWH-related memory from 2014 that was meaningful to you, and you offered touching stories about colleagues, patients, families, events and milestones that inspired you. We hope you enjoy these moments.
Courage in the Face of Uncertainty
We believe that health care is a vocation; those who choose this field are driven to help others, whether they are directly or indirectly involved with patient care. This was never made clearer to us than in working with the multidisciplinary team at BWH involved in Ebola preparedness efforts. These team members-nurses, physicians, lab staff, Materials Management, Engineering, Environmental Services, Security and others-have demonstrated remarkable courage in the face of uncertainty. They have come together for numerous training sessions and drills, completing tasks while wearing unfamiliar personal protective equipment and learning from each other. Working in rhythmic cadence, they have overcome great obstacles and strengthened our protocols. What struck us most was the way that they have remained focused on one important fact: at the center of all of these efforts may be a patient in dire need of our care. This sense of purpose has underscored every drill and training, as has team members' commitment to protecting each other. The team's work is a true manifestation of the Brigham Way, and we are so grateful.
