Greenberger Receives AGA’s Highest Honor
Norton Greenberger, MD, Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, last month received the 2006 Julius Friedenwald Medal for Distinguished Service from the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). Established in 1941, this award is the AGA’s highest honor and is presented to individuals whose careers provide exemplary service to the field of gastroenterology. Founded in 1897, the AGA has more than 15,000 physician and scientist members and is dedicated to advancing the science and practice of gastroenterology.
Greenberger was president of the AGA from 1984-1985. His research focuses on alcoholic liver disease, intestinal absorption of iron, inflammatory bowel disease and acute and chronic pancreatitis. Greenberger is the author or co-author of more than 220 articles, book chapters and books, including “Gastrointestinal Disorders: A Pathophysiologic Approach.” He was the gastroenterology section editor for the Year Book of Medicine, and the founder and an editor of the Year Book of Digestive Diseases.
