Kim Named Among Time’s 100
Most Influential PeopleTime magazine last month named Jim Yong Kim, MD, PhD, chief of the Division of Social Medicine and Health Inequalities, one of its 100 most influential people. Kim is joined on the list by artists, entertainers, scientists, leaders and revolutionaries whose talent, leadership and morals help shape the world, according to the magazine.
Kim is recognized for “trying to solve some of the world’s most difficult problems,” according to Time, which details his work with patients suffering from drug-resistant tuberculosis in Lima, Peru, and his efforts to increase treatment to AIDS patients in impoverished countries. Kim is a founding trustee and former executive director of Partners In Health. He has served as director of the World Health Organization’s HIV/AIDS department, where he led a campaign to increase the number of people treated with antiretroviral drugs to 3 million.
