Degrees and Professional Certifications
Kerrie McDonough, RN, ONC, clinical nurse on 16AB, and Mary Anne Murphy Kenyon, MPH, MS, BSN, RN, ONC, nurse manager on 16AB, successfully passed the National Orthopaedic Nurse Certification exam, identified as ONC.
Paula Oliveira, RN, CWN 10 lactation nurse and NIC for the Lactation Team, was named to the board of directors of the International Lactation Consultant Examiners. This appointment pays tribute to Oliveira’s lifelong achievements in the specialty of human lactation.
Katie Robbins, BSN, RN, of the CWN Float Pool, in December passed the Massachusetts State Department of Health Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training and testing, and is now SANE certified. SANE-certified clinicians care for sexual assault victims throughout the state working collaboratively with physicians, counselors, police and other law enforcement and court personnel.
Michelle Glowny, MSN, RN, PCCN, clinical educator on Tower 10AB, in January passed the Progressive Care Certified Nurse (PCCN) exam.
Latitia Noronha, BSN, RN, of 16CD, completed her bachelor’s of science in Nursing from UMass-Boston in August.
Suzanne M. Silvernail, MSN, RN, nurse manager on 15CD, in December completed her masters in Nursing from Salem State College.
Posters, Presentations and Publications
BWH will be well-represented during the National Congress of the Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) in Anaheim, Calif., in March. Toni Ringle, BSN, RN, Patricia Hamilton, RN, and Katie Morrison, BSN, RN, of the cardiac service in the Operating Room, will present a poster titled “Medical and Surgical Simulation: Educational Tool of the Future.”
Also at the AORN National Congress, Barbara DiTullio, BSN, MA, will join Linda Kenney, president and executive director of Medically Induced Trauma Support Services (MITTS), and Rick Van Pelt, MD, director of Out-of-OR Anesthesia and Minimally Invasive Services in BWH’s Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine, in a presentation titled “When Things Go Wrong at the Sharp End.”
Program managers Monique T. Mitchell, APRN, BC, and Barbara E. Lakatos, APRN, BC, were among the authors of “Is Your Medical/Surgical Patient Withdrawing from Alcohol?” in the October Nursing 2007. Mitchell, Lakatos and the other authors of this article tied for first place in the publication’s clinical writing contest and will receive their award during the opening ceremony of the Nursing Symposium in Las Vegas in March.
De’Ann McNamara, BS, RN, nurse educator in Interventional Radiology, co-authored with Michael Stecker, MD, an article published in the December 2007 Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
Pearl Cunningham, BSN, MBA, RN, CNOR, assistant nurse manager of the Operating Room, was elected secretary/treasurer of the National Association of Ophthalmic Registered Nurses in November.
Linda Evans, MSN, RN, CNOR, has had her research study “Perioperative Nurses’ Attitudes toward Family Presence in the Operating Room during Breast Biopsy Procedures Performed with Local Anesthesia,” accepted for publication in the AORN Journal.
