The Longwood Medical and Academic Area will be impacted by traffic and transit delays from 5:30-6:30 a.m. on Friday, September 15, due to the Boston-New York AIDS ride. A total of 2,800 riders are scheduled to clear Brookline and Boston by 6:30 a.m., Newton by 6:50 a.m., Wellesley by 8:30 a.m., and Natick by 9:45 a.m. Traffic on cross streets such as Brookline Avenue, Boylston Street and Huntington Avenue will be stopped temporarily as bicyclists pass. The Green “E” Line service will stop as riders cross Huntington Avenue. This delay will last from approximately 5:40-6 a.m. During this time, commuters are encouraged to take the Green “D” Line at Park Street or Copley Station to the Longwood area. All buses normally stopping at Ruggles Station will be diverted to Roxbury Crossing Station and continue to the LMA from that location. Orange Line and Commuter Rail passengers arriving at Ruggles Station from 5-6 a.m. can go to Roxbury Crossing (one stop on the Orange Line) or walk from Ruggles Station. MASCO shuttles, including the Longwood Express and off-site parking shuttles, will be delayed until approximately 6:15 a.m. The Longwood Express will begin service from Ruggles Station as soon as The Ride clears the area, at approximately 6 a.m. Any deliveries to the area which are scheduled for 5:30-6:30 a.m. that day should be rescheduled if the trucks will travel on Melnea Cass Boulevard, Tremont Street, Ruggles Street, Huntington Avenue, The Fenway, Brookline Avenue or Beacon Street. Please direct transit questions to CommuteWorks at MASCO at 617-632-2796, and questions about parking or shuttle bus services to MASCO Customer Information at 632-2800. On the day of the event, information will be available in local media and by contacting SmartRoutes for at 374-1234 or www.smartraveler.com
