Throughout Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, staff make countless contributions that showcase their commitment to excellence.
Last week, individuals and teams were recognized for these efforts during the 16th annual BWH & DF/BWCC Partners in Excellence Awards Ceremony.

“This is one of my favorite events because we have an opportunity to recognize individuals and teams for acts big and small that truly make a difference,” said BWH President Betsy Nabel, MD, who spoke before a packed Cabot Atrium. “One of the most common phrases in the nominations describing awardees is ‘above and beyond.’ The willingness of our employees to consistently go above and beyond is, I believe, what makes the Brigham such a special place.”
The annual ceremony recognized 108 individual Partners In Excellence Award recipients nominated by their peers, and 1,008 members of 54 project teams.
One of those individuals recognized for excellence was Mayra Scott, mail associate, in Office Services. “She is dedicated to finding the quickest and most economical route for the thousands of pieces of mail that go out each month,” according to her nominator. “Mayra virtually eliminated any complaints about patients not receiving mail in the most timely way.”
Award recipient Norma Aragones is instrumental in keeping vulnerable NICU patients safe. “As a unit service assistant, Norma cleans every infant incubator meticulously – just the way she would if her own family member were about to be placed into it,” said Aragones’ nomination.
“Whether a clinician, researcher, administrator or technical or support staff member, each of you play a significant role in carrying forth our mission,” said Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, president and CEO of Partners HealthCare.
Those who attended also had an opportunity to hear the perspectives of last year’s PIE award recipients Susan Block, MD, chair, DF/BW Cancer Center Department of Psychosocial Oncology and Palliative Care, and Anne Bane, RN, nursing director, Clinical Systems Innovations.
“The recognition that the Partners In Excellence Award brings motivated my team to continue to push on forward, and I’m sure it will do the same for you,” said Bane.
