Things are booming in the MICU – baby booming, that is. Eight MICU nurses gave birth within a span of five months this year.
Last month, they gathered for a celebration hosted by nursing director Kathleen Leone, MBA, BSN, RN, CCRN.
“It was quite a scene,” said Leone. “You can only imagine 10 babies in a single room. It was priceless.”
New MICU moms include Earilyn King-Thomas and Sue Sullivan, who both had twins, and Leah Szumita, Kim Pritchard, Allison Gallo, Jill Martin, Andrea Balko and Katie O’Connell.
Their pregnancies had been well documented in the unit, where a timeline poster was updated with photos along the nurses’ nine-month journeys.
