BWH Radiology staff and their colleagues from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Faulkner Hospital were in the spotlight at the nation’s largest medical conference: the Annual Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) meeting.
Radiology faculty, fellows and residents taught CME courses and won awards for poster and paper presentations at the conference, held earlier this month in Chicago. This year’s theme was “Celebrate the Image.”
“We’ve established a good track record of contributions to the RSNA meeting,” said Radiology Chairman Steven Seltzer, MD. “Whether it’s presenting research and case studies or teaching courses, our staff should be commended for sharing their expertise and knowledge with the larger radiology community.”
BWH, DFCI and Faulkner radiologists led more than 60 sessions, including research presentations and educational course offerings.
“RSNA is where many radiologists from privately owned free-standing clinics obtain required CME credits,” said Radiology Residency Program Director Barbara Weissman, MD. “A lot of work outside of typical casework goes into preparing these courses, and I think it speaks to the professional pride and respect for our colleagues that staff from so many academic radiology departments offer their services to teach these courses.”
RSNA also presents a number of awards at the annual meeting. Fellow Shadpour Demehri, MD, who also completed his residency at BWH, won a Roentgen fellowship trainee prize for his abstract “MRI-based Volumetric Quantification of Supraspinatus as a Predictor for Conservative Management Outcome: A Retrospective Study in Patients with Partial-Thickness Supraspinatus Tendon Tear.” According to Demehri, “The work was a continuation of my interest in quantitative imaging and the application of novel post-processing methods.”
He thanked BWH radiologists for helping him to prepare the manuscript for publication.
