Members of the BWH Young Professionals Group
One recent Saturday in August had members of the BWH Young Professionals Group planting cherry blossom trees, hedging bushes and laying fresh mulch around 70 trees on Tremont Street.
More than 40 employees and friends participated in the group’s Mission Hill Clean-up and Beautification Project Aug. 13, which was supported by ValleyCrest Landscape of Dorchester and Richard Rouse of Mission Hill Main Streets.
Christine Powers, a new BWH employee, was happy to help. “I signed up for this event just two weeks into my new job at BWH, and this upbeat group was so welcoming,” she said. “I grew up in Mission Hill and the opportunity to give back was really rewarding.”
The Brigham and Women’s Hospital Young Professionals group was established in 2010 with a mission to foster growth, improve retention and create a sense of community among BWH’s early career workforce.
“We thought it would be a perfect way for staff to enjoy the summer weather, mingle and network, while giving back to the hospital’s surrounding neighborhood,” said Young Professionals co-chair and project leader Lisa Rubino.
