What Boston athlete was drafted to play baseball for the Montreal Expos, but went to the University of Michigan instead?
BWH’s Chief of Radiology Steven Seltzer, MD, and the combined BWH/MGH Radiology team knew the answer (Tom Brady) to this trivia question, one of six that helped them clinch a victory during a competition at a recent national meeting for radiologists.
Each year, the Association of University Radiologists Meeting hosts a “fun” competition during the two-day meeting, where participants form teams for a film reading panel, combined with general trivia questions.
“They show 20 unknown cases, which are very challenging, and each team has to figure out the diagnosis,” said Seltzer.
BWH Radiology joined forces with MGH Radiology to form a single Partners team. With 18 residents and faculty members, their combined knowledge and expertise led them to victory over about 45 teams from hospitals across the country.
“This shows what can be accomplished if we work together as Partners,” said Barbara Weissman, MD, director of the BWH residency program for Radiology. She and Theresa McLoud, MD, her counterpart at MGH, served as team captains.
“We’ve never won before, so it was very exciting,” Seltzer said. “Of course, the winning team must present the cases the following year, so we’ve earned ourselves some extra work, in addition to the award.”
