As an emergency medicine physician, Christian Arbelaez, MD, MPH, encounters a variety of cases during his shift at the BWH Emergency Department.
That’s exactly what he likes about participating in “Ask the Doctor,” a WHDH 7News and Partners HealthCare initiative, where physicians answer viewers’ questions online about health information and provide tips to stay healthy.
“You never know what people will ask, and it keeps you on your toes,” Arbelaez said.
Arbelaez and Lisa Owens, MD, of Internal Medicine, are part of a group of Partners HealthCare physicians who take part in the weekly “Ask the Doctor” segment, which airs on Wednesdays. The other physicians are MGH’s Jeff Collins, MD, Victoria Rogers McEvoy, MD, and Laura Riley, MD.
“It’s another way to connect with patients and the community,” said Owens, whose next appearance is May 18 at 12:45 p.m.
Arbelaez also sees this initiative as an extension of serving the community. “Just as we do when patients come to BWH, we’re trying to help provide them with the best information available and empower them,” he said. Arbelaez’s next appearance is June 1 at 12:45 p.m.
Both physicians agree that the best part of participating in this forum is helping patients to feel more comfortable when seeking professional medical help.
“There are many questions that people have and are afraid to ask,” said Owens. “But I think after we encourage them to see a doctor, they are more likely to do so.”
