BWH mourns the loss of Sheila Ravnell, an ambulatory practice secretary in Emergency Radiology, who passed away Feb. 7. She was 41.
“Sheila loved BWH and the Department of Radiology. She was always willing to pitch in with extra hours even though she worked full time in a professional career elsewhere,” said Angela McLaughlin, RT, chief technologist in the Ambulatory/Emergency Division of the Department of Radiology. “She greeted everyone with a huge warm smile.”
A native of Eutawville, South Carolina, Ms. Ravnell served as a part-time and per-diem ambulatory practice administrator since 2002, working weekends in Emergency Radiology in the Emergency Department. On weekdays, she worked as an investment reporting analyst at The Boston Company Asset Management, LLC.
Her BWH colleagues remember her warm, engaging smile that lit up a room, said CT practice administrator supervisor Sean Jackson. “Patients in CT loved being on the receiving end of one of her famous smiles,” he said.
Another colleague, Vanessa Scott, remembers how Ms. Ravnell made her feel at ease during her first days as an ambulatory practice administrator.
“I was nervous about my new job here, but Sheila had such a calming effect on me and all who met her. I still remember her saying ‘Don’t sweat it, you’re going to be fine,’” Scott said.
Stephen Ledbetter, MD, MPH, and Bharti Khurana, MD, said the department will miss Ravnell’s commitment to her work. “Sheila was always one step ahead of what you needed and would help smooth out the workflow in a very busy environment,” said Khurana.
Ms. Ravnell is survived by her mother, Rosalee Ravnell of Boston, her sister Abilene of North Carolina and extended family and friends in Boston and South Carolina.
Services for Ms. Ravnell were held Feb. 12 at the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Roxbury.
