To celebrate National Patient Safety Awareness Week, the BWH Patient Safety team is offering the chance for employees to win one of two Kindle™ Book Readers.
To enter the contest, visit Safety Matters at BWHPikeNotes.org/SafetyMatters, read next week’s issue of Safety Matters about serious reportable events at BWH and answer a few questions.
“We encourage staff throughout the hospital, not just the clinical areas, to join us in marking this important week,” said Michael Gustafson, MD, MBA, senior vice president for Clinical Excellence. “This is an excellent opportunity for us to stop and reflect on how we can improve patient safety by looking at our mistakes.”
The Safety Matters initiative was launched in January as a way to better communicate patient safety information with the BWH community. The publication provides an opportunity to share stories about mistakes we have made at BWH, what we have learned from them and the systems improvements undertaken as a result.
The initiative also includes recurring patient safety tips and information displayed on the Community Connects television screens throughout the hospital campus, as well as Safety Matters: Executive WalkRounds. WalkRounds provide an opportunity for staff to share safety concerns with BWH senior leadership. Each week, members of the senior leadership team join the BWH Patient Safety Team to visit a different patient care area and speak directly with staff about their patient safety concerns. Comments from staff often result in patient safety improvements.
