As cholera rapidly spread through Haiti last fall, BWHers joined forces with other community members to assemble hygiene kits filled with desperately needed soap, sanitizer and other toiletries.
Annie Lewis-O’Connor, PhD, MPH, NP, a member of the CWN Nursing team, and Nadia Raymond, RN, of the BWH ICU Float Pool, worked with BWH, Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center, Pack One Boy Scouts of Islington, Pack 336 of West Roxbury and Downey Elementary School in Westwood to collect a total of 967 hygiene kits.
“In the end, we shipped 42 boxes to Port-au-Prince,” Lewis-O’Connor said. “We estimate those kits will be used by thousands of Haitians to help stop the spread of cholera.”
The group also raised $1,000 to cover shipping costs, and Partners In Health arranged for shipping and receiving of the hygiene kits.
