Chief Medical Officer Andy Whittemore, MD, a U.S. Navy veteran, cut the cake at last week’s Veterans Day ceremony with a sword that was issued to Robert Donaghue, operations manager for Security and Parking, when he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Donaghue, a colonel who served in the Marines for 32 years, helped organize the ceremony to honor Veterans Day, the 231st Marine Corps birthday and the troops currently serving overseas. A table displayed personal memorabilia, including platoon photos and cruise books from those at BWH who have served. About 100 BWHers are veterans, and some are in the reserves and currently on active duty overseas.
“We will look to make this combined Veterans Day and Marine Corps birthday celebration an annual event and hope to include more people next year,” Donaghue said.
