Beverley Sobers recently was promoted to director of Workforce Development in the Department of Human Resources. In her new position, Sobers will lead workforce initiatives at BWH and the Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization to advance employees’ careers through collaboration with colleges and community organizations.
“We are looking at ways to align Workforce Development initiatives to support current employees and enhance their experiences at BWH,” said Sobers, who has served since 2003 as manager of Workforce Development.
Sobers will oversee Workforce Development projects internally and externally. Her team includes a newly appointed career coach who will develop a support program for employees looking to advance their careers and collaborate with managers to increase their participation in workforce initiatives. The team also includes a community liaison who will solidify working relationships between BWH and the surrounding community and facilitate communication to address the needs of applicants.
“We are trying to get a sense for what new programs need to be developed to help employees advance their careers and reach their goals,” Sobers said.
These initiatives are especially important as the new Carl J. and Ruth Shapiro Cardiovascular Center—scheduled to open in 2008—increases the demand to fill nursing, technologist and technician positions within the hospital.
Sobers joined BWH in 1977 and has held positions in Nursing Administration and Human Resources. In her most recent position as manager of Workforce Development, she established a solid basis for employees to succeed and reach their career objectives.
