The Human Research Committee (IRB) and the Clinical Research Program are sponsoring the lecture Clinical Researchers Beware; Privacy Rule is Closer Than You Think, by P. Pearl O'Rourke, MD, director of Human Research Affairs, Partners Health Care Systems, once a month to offer clinical researchers an opportunity to fulfill the mandatory HIPAA requirement before the April 14 deadline. While the majority of changes due to HIPAA focus on the myriad activities that directly relate to the provision of patient care, there are many that will have significant effects on the conduct of human subject research. An overview of the Privacy Rule with specific attention to the impact on research will be presented.
This lecture fulfills the mandatory training requirement for HIPAA and the Privacy Rule, qualifies for AMA Category 1 and Risk Management credits and meets the BORN requirements for 1.2 contact hours for registered nurses. Researchers must sign in at the lecture to receive credit.
