This spring, novice and expert runners alike will take on the historic 117th Boston Marathon, while at the same time raising money for healthier babies and moms at BWH. Their fitting new name is Team Stork.
Formerly known as Team Brigham, which launched in 1998 and has since raised more than $5.5 million for various patient and community health programs at BW/F, Team Stork will have a singular focus on promoting healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.
As they prepare for race day on April 15, 2013, Team Stork members will benefit from the specialized support of Susan Hurley of CharityTeams, an organization that trains runners to achieve their dreams of running the Boston Marathon while raising money for various local non-profits. Each runner commits to raise a minimum of $5,000 for the hospital.Team Stork will support BWH's Stork Fund, which advances clinical care, research and education for healthier moms and babies. Together, Team Stork and the Stork Fund will give all babies at BWH the best possible chance at a healthy life. Team Stork fundraising propels the following areas:
"We hope that everyone in the BWH community who wants to run the Boston Marathon-either again or for the very first time-will run for a reason with Team Stork," said Jim Asp, vice president and chief development officer at BWH. "We can't promise the 26.2-mile adventure will be easy, but we can promise a supportive, fun and inspiring experience."Runners of all experience levels are encouraged to join the team, or learn more by visiting www.teamstork.org or contacting Katie Kilkelly at 617-424-4191 or teamstork@partners.org.
