This fall, BWH hosted another successful campaign for United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley, raising a grand total of $168,384. Over the last four years, BWHers have contributed more than $658,000 for community programs supported by United Way.
“Once again, BWHers stepped up to help improve the lives of thousands of people in the area,” said Angelleen Peters-Lewis, PhD, RN, associate chief nurse, Women’s and Newborn’s Nursing and Clinical Services, who co-chaired this year’s campaign with Ed Habermehl, administrative director for the Divisions of Cardiac Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
The theme of the three-week campaign was “Helping Families along the Way.” The donations of nearly 1,000 BWHers will support United Way’s efforts to help families afford basic needs, such as food and heating oil, in addition to programs for sustainable employment, affordable housing and youth opportunities.
There were many raffle winners during the campaign. Donors were eligible for gift cards, parking passes, a mountain bike, flat screen TV and the grand prize of airfare for two anywhere in the continental U.S. The grand prize winner was Judith Kennedy of Cardiac Surgery.
“We thank the Brigham community for being part of the movement to advance the common good,” said Habermehl.
