Staff at 850 Boylston St. last week celebrated in style on the roof of the garage as the ambulatory care center marked its 15th anniversary.
When the center opened on Aug. 19, 1991, amid the intense winds and flooding of Hurricane Bob, the facility featured primary care, OB/GYN, medical specialties (including allergy), radiology services and a laboratory. Today, the center houses many practices and services, including endoscopy, rehabilitation services, pain management, arthritis and orthopedic services, greatly expanded laboratory and radiology services and the Gretchen and Edward Fish Center for Women’s Health.
“850 Boylston St. has developed into an outpatient treatment center that surpassed my expectations,” said Al Sheffer, MD, of the Division of Rheumatology, Immunology and Allergy, who founded the Allergy Clinic and has been at 850 Boylston St. since it opened. “Not only do we have the facilities we need, but we also have outstanding staff to support them.”
Keri-Leigh Doiron, chief technologist of Radiology, who also celebrated her 15th year at the center, added that the patient-centered focus of BWH is maintained at 850 Boylston St.
Since the center opened to patients in 1991, staff have grown alongside it. “This is my home away from home,” said Heidi Harris, Ambulatory Practice secretary.
