JCAHO Pocket Guides Available for Physicians
BWH Clinical Compliance created a 13-page pocket guide with information physicians need to know for the upcoming, unannounced 2007 JCAHO hospital and laboratory surveys. The guide also includes information pertinent to inspections by other regulatory agencies, including the state Department of Public Health.
“The guides serve as a reminder for physicians on JCAHO standards relating to the National Patient Safety Goals and medication management,” Gail Morrissey, BWH’s manager of Clinical Compliance, said. “It includes a listing of the goals, as well as information about advance directives, restraints, procedural sedation and medical record documentation for physicians to refer to if needed.”
During the 2007 JCAHO survey, surveyors will query medical staff on topics such as how the multidisciplinary team coordinates care, how care and treatment decisions are communicated to the patient and family and how patient safety goals are implemented.
