Kaban Named Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Leonard B. Kaban, MD, DMD, in June, was named chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In this position, he oversees the clinical activities in oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral medicine, oral pathology and dentistry.
Kaban joined BWH in 1973, as the first full-time oral and maxillofacial surgeon within the Division of Plastic and Oral Surgery. In 1985, he traveled to California and served as professor and chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Kaban returned to Boston in 1994 as the Walter C. Guralnick Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS), chairman of the Harvard Department and chief of the OMFS Service at MGH. He now splits his time between BWH and MGH. As chief of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Kaban plans to facilitate interactions among BWH, MGH and Harvard Medical School.
