Ruiz Named White House Fellow
George Ruiz, MD, in June was named a 2006 White House Fellow, joining a program founded in 1964 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Ruiz is a cardiologist who specializes in congenital heart disease. He completed his training in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases at BWH, where he was chief resident in the Department of Medicine. He also was a founding member of the Minority Medical House Staff Association and was instrumental in the development of the BWH Office of Minority Career Development. Although his clinical practice is now in Washington, D.C., Ruiz remains active in national efforts to attract minority students to careers in medicine and to BWH.
