Tobin School kindergarten students sport their new caps and scarves, provided by the Caps for Kids program.
The Caps for Kids program broke records this holiday season, donating more than 10,000 caps, scarves, sweaters and other winter gear to children in Boston elementary schools, preschools, community health centers, Head Start and homeless programs.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been 22 years since we started,” said Joan Casby, PT, of BWH, who along with Candace Lowe, ScD, of DFCI, recruits volunteer knitters from both institutions on behalf of the program. “Each year, we continue to find more people willing to help and make this program a success.”
Both organizers said that even after more than two decades, the best part of the program is the look on children’s faces when they receive new caps and other warm clothing.
“It’s such a joy to truly see their excitement,” Casby said.
Donations of caps, scarves, mittens and other items are accepted year round. E-mail jcasby@partners.orgfor more information.
