Many departments and groups across BWH are collecting money, food, clothing, toys and other items for those in need this season. With overwhelming generosity, they open their hearts and wallets in an outpouring of support. Here’s a look at some of the ways BWHers are giving.
Patient Care Services is collecting funds to purchase clothing, toys, shoes, boots and warm weather gear for four Tobin Elementary School students and their families.
The Brookside WIC Nutrition Department and other staff gave 15 Thanksgiving baskets to health center families in need at Thanksgiving.
The OB Perinatal HIV Team and OB/GYN Department are collecting clothing, toys and other gifts for HIV-infected mothers and their children, as well as monetary donations for the BWH Perinatal AIDS Assistance Program, which provides emergency assistance throughout the year to patients in need.
Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center continues its tradition of providing gifts for pediatric patients at the center, while the center’s Adult Medicine staff bought Thanksgiving turkeys and trimmings for 17 SJPHC patients and their families.
Social Work and Care Coordination gave Stop & Shop coupons, through The Cheever Family Fund, to patients and families in need at Thanksgiving and during the December holidays. Care Coordination also is sponsoring a family through Project Hope.
Staff from Tower 4B and 4C are making blankets for their patients, which will be given to patients on Christmas Day.
Staff throughout BWH teamed up with Westwood Cub Scouts in a nursing-led effort to gather hygiene kits, which will be shipped through Partners In Health, for families in Haiti.
The Marketing Department organized a collection for the annual “Cradles to Crayons” children’s clothing drive.
The Lee Bell Center for Breast Imaging is collecting funds to sponsor a local family through The Home For Little Wanderers.
Biomedical Engineering is teaming up with the family of Brandon Jakle, a colleague who passed away in 2009, to sponsor a family for the holidays through HAVEN (Hospitals Helping Abuse and Violence End Now ).
Brigham and Women’s/Mass General Health Care Center at Foxborough staff teamed up with a local domestic violence support group leader and created the “Giving Tree” holiday campaign to purchase items for families in need. Staff also supported the annual Holiday food basket deliveries by the Foxborough Discretionary Fund and joined fellow Patriot Place neighbors in the annual “Cradles to Crayons” children’s clothing drive.

The Phyllis Jen Center for Primary Care has a wonderful holiday tradition of giving to patients in need. This year, we will give Stop & Shop gift cards to patients and families who are in need of support.
The faculty and staff in the Department of Dermatology are making candy crafts as well as collecting toys, gift cards, sporting goods, school supplies and/or clothing to be donated to the Home for Little Wanderers, a non-profit child and family service agency.
The BWH chemistry Lab is making donations to the Big Brother Big Sister organization for the elderly.
