It was a busy November for BWH’s Biomedical Research Institute (BRI).
On Nov. 11, 39 junior researchers showcased their most recent research at the fall 2010 BRI Research Excellence Awards. The event, which provided an opportunity for young investigators to showcase their research through a competitive poster session, awarded prizes to the following researchers: Basak Icli, PhD, Andrew Cox, PhD, Alessandro Marsili, PhD, and Fangwei Wang, PhD.
To date, the BRI has given out 40 research excellence awards.
Connors-BRI Center for Research on Women’s Health & Gender Biology held its fall 2010 Workshop & Poster Session Nov. 19, organized by Jill Goldstein, PhD, and Julie Buring, ScD, chair and co-chair of the Center, respectively. The workshop showcased more than 80 posters from researchers throughout the hospital and featured presentations from junior faculty scholars funded by a National Institutes of Health award program called Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH).
“BIRCWH provides a bridge from a semi-independent to totally independent research position,” said Hernan Kopcow, PhD, who was one of five fellows to present at the workshop. “The amount of mentoring that we receive is tremendous, particularly with the application process for grants.”
Karen Costenbader, MD, John Gill, MD, PhD, Laura Holsen, PhD, and Margaret McLaughlin-Drubin, PhD, also provided highlights of their research.
