Profiles of Excellence
Claudet Williams is constantly on the move. Yet she always has time to share a smile with other hospital staff or say hello to patients as she dashes from one unit to another, making sure linen carts are properly stocked.
“Every day I see so many faces and meet so many people,” said Williams, a 20-year veteran of linens service, which is part of Materials Management. “That’s one of the best parts of my job.”
Williams, who is the lead linen handlers, starts her day at 5:30 a.m. Her priority is to assess the nearly 150 linen carts around the hospital to insure that they are well stocked with all the linen that patients will need throughout the day. Her responsibilities encompass all areas of the hospital, including all patient care areas, as well as staff locker rooms and the numerous clinics around the main hospital campus. Chances are if you see linen, Williams has checked it.
“Everyone depends on us,” she said. “If a nurse or a patient care assistant doesn’t have what they need, they can’t do a good job.”
Williams’ commitment to excellence is shown through her dedication and teamwork, as well as mentorship of others, said her supervisor, Elaine Weiswasser. “Claudet is a terrific leader and a quick thinker who is not afraid to take charge,” said Weiswasser.
As 1 p.m. rolls around, Williams’ shift is coming to an end, but not without a final walk through to make sure carts are in order.
“Before I leave, I always check to make sure staff have what they need,” Williams said.
