Leadership and patients from BWH, Dana-Farber and South Shore Hospital cut the ribbon to open the new cancer center.
Hospital leadership and patients cut the ceremonial ribbon to officially open the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center in clinical affiliation with South Shore Hospital in Weymouth this month.
“This place is built around patients and families,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, who joined DFCI President Ed Benz, MD, and South Shore President Richard Aubut for the opening celebration. “It’s a gift for us to participate in the care of people on the South Shore.”
The 20,000-square foot cancer center aims to bring residents south of Boston the highest level of cancer care right in the community where patients live.
The center opened its doors to patients Oct. 5. Services provided there include medical oncology and chemotherapy infusion, diagnostic imaging, radiation therapy, breast health services, surgical oncology consults, complementary medicine, laboratory and pharmacy services, a resource center, café, healing gardens and a shop specializing in cancer care supplies.
