She wrote and published “I Can Choose,” a children’s book dedicated to the topic. In the 26-page book for ages 5 to 9, Higgins highlights some common instances in a child’s life where choice is involved, providing both the good and bad choices and comparing the results that accompany each choice.
“Children benefit from knowing that they have the power to choose and the positive results that come from making the right decision and listening to parents,” said Higgins, whose love for reading to her nieces and nephews inspired her to write the book.
“I really enjoyed writing it,” she said. “But most importantly, I believe in the message that when parents teach, children learn.”
Higgins recently donated copies of “I Can Choose” to BWH’s Shop on the Pike.
