Twelve distinguished researchers this month received service awards for a quarter century of dedication to BWH. During the past 25 years, their collective discoveries have been groundbreaking in women’s health, sleep medicine, chronic disease, allergy, neurology and other areas.
“To be able to honor individuals who have spent 25 years of their career doing outstanding research at BWH is a great privilege for the Biomedical Research Institute,” said BRI Director Thomas Kupper, MD.
The recipients are Nancy R. Cook, DSc; Howard R. Katz, PhD; Dana Helga Gabuzda, MD; Samuel Patz, PhD; Ging-Kuo Wang, PhD; Eric Garshick, MD; Jean Claire Lee, PhD; Meir Jonathan Stampfer, MD; Jeremiah E. Silbert, MD; Charles Andrew Czeisler, MD, PhD; Ellice S. Lieberman, MD, DrPH; and Arlene Helen Sharpe, MD, PhD.
“It is a goal of the BRI to promote and recognize all scientists, including non-physician scientists, as critical components of the BWH research mission,” said BRI Administrative Director Jacqueline Slavik, PhD. “The Research Service Awards kicked off the ‘Year of Innovation’ at the BWH while formally celebrating the contributions of the honorees.”
Before the award presentation, Dr. Robert Langer, institute professor at MIT, delivered the keynote address, “Innovation in Medicine and Bioengineering.”
“Dr. Langer delivered an engaging and inspiring lecture of the highest quality, which was perfectly suited for this important event,” said Kupper.
