Physician assistants Christie Lucente, PA-C, and Zachary Bernazzoli, PA-C, were honored earlier this month with the 2014 Physician Assistant (PA) Recognition Awards during the PA recognition dinner at BWH. The annual celebration recognizes the contributions of all PAs from across BWH, BWFH and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI).
Lucente, a PA in Emergency Medicine at BWH and BWFH, was described by colleagues who nominated her as “compassionate, knowledgeable and thorough.”
“Christie is a tireless advocate for the PA practice and is always available for PAs across the institution and throughout Massachusetts,” her nominators wrote. “She exemplifies excellence in all areas, including leadership, professionalism and teamwork.”
Many nominators praised Lucente, a former PA educator, for creating programs that have improved the high quality of care that patients receive on a daily basis. Wrote one nominator: “She has contributed to the mission of promoting inter-professional education as a means to foster collaborative care. She has recruited and trained other PAs to participate as faculty for these programs and is a recognized expert in the field of clinical and PA education.”
Bernazzoli works in both the procedure suite and lymphoma group at DFCI, helping patients with long-term survivorship issues and chemotherapy treatments. Nominators wrote that patients look forward to visiting with Bernazzoli because of his positive outlook on life.
“Zack’s enthusiasm and charisma are why his patients love him,” wrote one nominator. Another coworker noted how Bernazzoli strives every day to put patients at ease, even when they are stressed and anxious. “We have had countless feedback from patients about how smooth their procedures have gone and how instrumental Zack was in making this happen,” the nominator wrote.
Deb Yolin, PA-C, MS, director of the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center, also complimented Bernazzoli for the quality improvement projects that he has been involved in, as well as his work with manufacturers to redesign DFCI’s bone marrow biopsy kits.
