To mark the anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, BWH will host a number of activities and events in April that revolve around the theme of "Hope and Healing" to provide staff with time to reflect.
On April 7, a wall of Hope and Healing will be installed in the 75 Francis St. lobby, at the site of last year's Wishing Wall by the interior entrance to the Emergency Department. Note cards will be available for staff, patients and visitors to write messages of thanks, reflections or any sentiment they wish to contribute, which will be affixed to the wall. Note cards will be available at the wall and online at BWHPikeNotes.org in a variety of languages.
Reflective of last year's "BWH Strong" buttons, the hospital will also provide "Hope & Healing" buttons for employees who would like them.
On Tuesday, April 15, the anniversary of the bombings, BWHers are invited to attend programs throughout the day in the Bornstein Amphitheater or to tune in via webcast. The schedule will feature a panel of Marathon survivors and their families; a grand rounds-style talk by members of multidisciplinary teams involved in the hospital's response; and a special service hosted by BWH Chaplaincy, among other events. An "Unsung Heroes" forum, which will honor those who played a vital, behind-the-scenes role in BWH's response to the bombings, will conclude the day.
"Our anniversary events will provide an opportunity for us to come together and continue healing," said BWH President Betsy Nabel, MD. "We will be able to look back at the lessons we learned, thank our colleagues for all they did and collectively move forward with hope and optimism."
