That on Feb. 14, 1967, a working agreement was signed to merge Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Robert Breck Brigham Hospital and the Boston Hospital for Women into the one hospital we know and love today?
Thus, it was a Valentine's Day to remember.
According to the 1966-1967 Peter Bent Brigham Hospital Annual Report, the agreement was called "A Plan for a Medical Center," and explained that "in combining the facilities of three disparate but overlapping hospitals, which are close geographically and in need of similar common services, there can be improvement in patient care." The report declared that "the three hospitals formally resolved to support the plan for union without waiting for other partners who may join us later."
Today, as a founding member of Partners HealthCare, BWHC has expanded greatly. Its campus now includes BWFH and 14 primary care practices, including two community health centers, as well as affiliations with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, South Shore Hospital, Cape Cod Healthcare and others, allowing BWH to provide the best care for the most patients possible.
