What makes a volunteer uniquely qualified to be Volunteer of the Year is an ability to carry out the values established by BWH: quality patient care, teaching excellence, research leadership, customer focus, respect for the individual, teamwork, embracing change and operational efficiency.
Outstanding Volunteer Awards are designed to honor individuals who have contributed at an extraordinary level of dedication. Examples of this type of outstanding service would include:
1. Eligibility All volunteers are eligible for nomination. Only one person may be nominated per department. Up to two winners may be named in any one year. An individual may receive the award only once. Deceased volunteers may be nominated posthumously.
2. Length of Service Persons must have been with the organization for at least one year.
3. Mission The nominee must exemplify the mission and values of the hospital, as well as the mission of the volunteer department. The Mission of the Department of Volunteer and Community Access Services is to serve the hospital's diverse constituencies through enhanced patient/family experiences, accessible health care career programs, and volunteer personal growth.
4. Nominations Nominations may be made by anyone in the hospital and must be approved by the volunteer’s immediate supervisor.
RECOGNITIONWinners will be announced annually at the Volunteer Appreciation Celebration. Each winner will receive a letter of congratulations and a recognition citation.
In addition, the names of each winner will be added to the permanent plaque displayed on the H. Richard Nesson Pike outside of the Bornstein Amphitheater.
Winners will be selected by an advisory committee comprised of senior staff members, key department representatives, veteran volunteers, and the director of Volunteer and Community Access Services.
