Award Helps Promote Patient Safety Culture
Director of Partners Biomedical Engineering Jeffrey B. Cooper, PhD, kicked off the first Annual Patient Safety Award ceremony, honoring Biomedical Engineering employees at BWH and MGH. The celebration emphasized the significance of sustaining exceptional patient safety. “This award is an important step in generating a reliable, safe culture, which fosters outstanding operations and also leads to new technology system solutions aimed at preventing adverse outcomes,” said Cooper.
This year’s Patient Safety Awards recognized three department employees based on the criteria of the individual(s) or teams in the department who demonstrate the best qualities of patient safety, identify consequential patient safety problems and/or implement innovative solutions.
Phil Levine a senior technician in Biomedical Engineering at BWH, was one of this year’s recipients. Levine, a long time BWH employee, was honored for persistently identifying patient safety issues related to medical equipment, maintaining leadership in developing the biomedical equipment portion of the nursing orientation and for his contributions to the Department of Biomedical Engineering's quality assurance measures and the hospital’s Patient Safety Committee. “I hope that this event will be emulated by others to propagate the patient theme throughout the PHS system,” said Cooper. “Phil is a prime example of the great work that BWHers dedicate to patient safety.”
