Partners HealthCare kicked off the new year with a public education campaign featuring messages focused on quality in The Boston Globe, Boston Herald, Boston Business Journal and the New England edition of the Wall Street Journal, along with a new website called “Connect With Partners.”
“Partners HealthCare has a great story to tell about the quality of care provided by our doctors, nurses and health professionals,” said Gary L. Gottlieb, MD, MBA, president and CEO of Partners HealthCare.
The messages, which feature patients from BWH, MGH and Newton-Wellesley Hospital, illustrate Partners’ use of the electronic medical record to improve care; the uniform high quality care in the treatment of stroke and other conditions; and the hospitals’ success in coordinating care for patients with complex medical needs.
The campaign is part of a system-wide strategic initiative that focuses on care redesign, patient affordability and reputation.
“We disagree with the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office report from March 2010, which stated that there is ‘little material variation in the quality of care delivered’ provided by hospitals in Massachusetts,” Gottlieb said. “Publicly available research data shows there are indeed differences in the quality of care in Massachusetts – and many of these differences are significant.”
“In our 15-year history, this is the first time Partners HealthCare has embarked on a public education campaign focused on our reputation,” he added. “But as the largest health care provider in Massachusetts, and the state’s largest private employer, we believe that it is appropriate and necessary to communicate to our patients, health policy leaders and our community about the value of the care we provide.”
