U.S. Surgeon General Visits HMS
Vice Admiral Richard H. Carmona, MD, MPH, FACS, U.S. Surgeon General (pictured above, center), recently spoke at HMS as part of the Office for Diversity and Community Partnership “Leadership Forum.” Carmona, who is the 17th Surgeon General, having taken office in August 2002, provided insight into his personal and professional background, relaying anecdotes about his life. Carmona also stressed the importance of prevention in public health, citing obesity, asthma, health care disparities and type II diabetes as areas of focus. He closed his presentation saying, “Being a doctor is the greatest position on Earth, as it enables me to care for someone else. The bottom line is that as doctors, we are all here to serve our fellow man.”
