BWH Premieres New Clinical Chief of GI
Robert Burakoff, MD, MPH, an internationally known specialist in the diagnosis and treatment on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and editor-in-chief of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease journal, has been recruited as BWH’s new clinical chief of Gastroenterology (GI). In concert with Burakoff’s arrival, plans for a new digestive health center of excellence at BWH are underway.
For years, BWH has provided world-class care for patients with gastrointestinal disorders. As a new addition to this team, Burakoff will apply his skills and expertise to further develop programs and offer new technologies in the areas of IBD, liver disease, GI motility, endoscopy and GI cancer.
“Our vision of developing a center of excellence is to provide cutting-edge patient care while broadening clinical research and contributing to the education of patients, physicians, and the community,” said Burakoff.
Also within the division, a GI Motility Center has been formed and will be open for patient care in early 2003. The Motility Center will provide comprehensive care for patients with GI motility disorders and is an example of BWH’s commitment to procuring state-of-the-art equipment for diagnosis and treatment of esophageal diseases.
