Graduations and Certifications
Edward Arndt, MS, APRN-BC, of the ICU Float Pool, in June received his master’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Graduate School of Nursing. In July, he became certified as an acute care nurse practitioner.
Carin Bennett-Rizzo, MS, APRN-BC, of the Telemetry Nursing Float Pool, in April received certification as an adult nurse practitioner.
Suellen Breakey, RN, cardiac surgery nurse coordinator, in August earned her PhD from Boston College.
Li Chen, RN, and Katie Fitzgerald, RN, both of Tower 14AB, recently became certified as practitioners.
Melissa Collins, BSN, RN, of the Operating Room, in June received OR nurse certification.
Angela Derriggs-Walters, RN, and Loretta Pietrzak, RN, both of Tower 14AB, became Med-surg certified in May.
Barbara DiTullio, BSN, RN, assistant nurse manager in the Operating Room, in June received her master’s degree in critical and creative thinking from the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
Joanne Dupuis, MS, APRN, BC, CORLN, ONC, CNN, CCRN, Tower 7AB clinical educator, in June received Advanced Burn Life Support certification.
Vlasta Dolinar, MSN, APRN, BC, of Tower 15CD, in May received a master’s of science in nursing from Simmons College. Dolinar also recently passed the nurse practitioner boards.
Sylvia Francis, RN, of Tower 10AB, in May received her BSN from Curry College.
Susan Gabriel, BSN, RN, CCRN, of Tower 8D, in March earned her cardiac surgical certification.
Susan Gagnon, RN, of the Intermediate Float Pool, in August graduated from Northeastern University with a BSN/MS in psychiatric mental health nursing. In April, Gagnon was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
Lauren Godsoe, RN, of CWN-5, in May received her BSN from the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
Gabriele Harrison, BSN, RN, of the NICU, in May received her MSN with distinction from Simmons College, and in June, received certification as a pediatric nurse practitioner.
Catherine Hogan, MSN, RN, of Tower 12ABC, in June received certification in Progressive Care from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses.
Lorna Holmes, RN, of Tower 14CD, passed the ANCC exam in May.
Ludwine D. Jean-Jacques, APRN-BC, of Tower 12ABC, in May received her MSN summa cum laude from Northeastern University. In June, Jean-Jacques received certification and licensure as an acute care nurse practitioner.
Gary McNabb, RN, of Tower 10AB, last spring was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
Holly Murphy, RN, of Tower 8AB, this fall is teaching a Nursing Health Assessment course at Salem State College.
Mary Anne Murphy Kenyon, MPH, MS, RN, nurse manager of Tower 16AB, in August received her certificate in health care management summa cum laude from Stonehill College.
Judith A. Nagle, MSN, APRN, BC, CNOR, of the Operating Room, in August was recertified for five years as a family nurse practitioner.
Samira Sheth, RN, of Tower 14CD, in May received her master’s from Simmons College nurse practitioner program.
Kimberly Templeton, RN, CLNC, of the Neurosciences ICU, in July received her BSN from the University of Phoenix.
Awards and Achievements
Howard ‘Tom’ Blanchard, MEd, RN, CEN, in April was appointed to a two-year term of service on the National Association of Clinical Nurse Specialists (NACNS) Membership Committee. The NACNS is an organization devoted to identifying and resolving matters related to the clinical nurse specialist position. As part of the membership committee, Blanchard will help monitor the organization’s membership, educate clinical nurse specialists about the value of their participation and host a welcoming reception for new members.
William T. Briggs, MSN, RN, CEN, nurse manager for the Emergency Department, and Nicki S. Gilboy, MSN, RN, CEN, of the Emergency Department, this month were inducted into the Academy of Emergency Nursing at the organization’s annual conference in San Antonio, Texas. To be selected for this honor, nurses must demonstrate enduring and substantial contributions that had a significant impact on the advancement of the emergency nursing profession.
Laura J. Crawford, BSN, RN, Trauma and Burn Program manager, in August was appointed the Massachusetts state chair for the Society of Trauma Nurses. In this role, she will institute state Society of Trauma Nurses meetings that include legislative, educational and injury prevention activities, among other responsibilities.
Linda Evans, BSN, RN, CNOR, perioperative nurse educator, received an AORN national research grant for her study, “Perioperative Nurses’ Attitudes Toward Family Presence in the Operating Room During Breast Biopsy Procedures Performed with Local Anesthesia.”
Ludwine D. Jean-Jacques, APRN-BC, of Tower 12ABC, in May received the Nancy Walden Professional Achievement Award, which is given to a Northeastern University student who demonstrates responsible leadership in the professional organization within the discipline of nursing, active participation in achieving the goals of professional organizations in nursing and peer support and mentoring in nursing organizations.
Ellen E. Sullivan, BSN, RN, CPAN, in April presented “PACU Tracking” at the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses’ 25th National Convention in Orlando, Fla.
