Scaffolding goes up on the buildings that face the 15 Francis St. entrance to BWH this month as the first visible sign that construction of the Brigham Patient Parking Garage has begun. On April 1, the Peter Bent Brigham entrance closes to pedestrians and vehicles.
Staff are invited to attend one of three informational meetings about the two-year project on Feb. 21, 27 and 29, at 2:30 p.m. in Carrie Hall. At the sessions, employees will learn how patients are being redirected to the 45 Francis St. entrance and about a new employee-only entrance to BWH that will open off of Huntington Avenue. Employees will also be provided a timetable for construction, which will include excavation work and blasting.
The Brigham Patient Parking Garage is a 400-car facility that, when complete, will help alleviate the shortage of patient parking at BWH and ease traffic congestion on neighborhood streets. The garage will be built underneath the current 15 Francis St. entry driveway and ramp, and above ground there will be a beautifully landscaped green space that will restore the historical grandeur of the original entrance to the Peter Bent Brigham building. The project also includes a new bus stop on Huntington Avenue with improved waiting facilities, a parking area for 74 bicycles, and upgrades to the windows, electrical system and HVAC system in adjacent buildings.
