Patients, families and visitors are beginning to see the results of construction to improve the patient experience in the Emergency Department, now that the project has reached the half way mark.
For patients, the changes mean quicker access to care, as the front desk is now occupied by a staff nurse and an administrative staff member, enabling rapid check-in and assessment.
A newly renovated space adjacent to the 75 Francis St. lobby recently opened as a patient waiting area, and staff have seen their break room double in size, with a sitting area and more space for much-needed storage.
All work is scheduled to be completed next spring. Although the ED will only see a modest increase in overall square footage, the redesign will promote a more streamlined and efficient care model aimed at reducing “door-to-doc” time and improving patient satisfaction.
