Nominations are due March 19 for the annual Thomson Compassionate Leadership and Scholarship recognition awards. These awards originated 10 years ago to remember the legacy of one of BWH’s most treasured leaders, the late Dennis Thomson, former vice president of Public Affairs, who was known by his colleagues and peers as “the conscience of BWH.”
The Thomson Leadership Award is presented every spring to a staff member who exemplifies compassionate leadership as defined by Thomson. That definition includes several elements: care and respect for all members of the community, integrity, character, dedication to the values of BWH and competency in delivering the highest quality patient care.
The Compassionate Care Scholar Awards recognize employees or teams of employees from any discipline who embody the principles of compassion in their daily work and exemplify it most at the bedside of patients. The scholarship awards provide $500 per award as seed money to support projects that benefit BWH patients.
This year’s Leadership Award recipient and the Compassionate Care Scholarship recipients will be honored on June 2, at 3 p.m., in the Bornstein Amphitheater. A reception will follow at 4 p.m. in the Peter Bent Brigham Rotunda.
Nomination criteria for both awards are available online at BWHPikeNotes.org. Nominations are due to Maija Galins on March 19. For more information, call Galins at 617-732-8515 or Christian Arbelaez, MD, MPH, at 617-732-8947.
