BIMA's Leah Gathogo, LPN, stocks one of the new power exam tables.
BWH, along with MGH and Partners, last year made a commitment to improve access for patients with disabilities. Last month, 39 new power exam tables were delivered to practices throughout the hospital and around the distributed campus as one way to improve access. BWH now has 55 new power exam tables.
“These tables give our staff the tools they need to provide accessible care,” said Janet Razulis, administrative director of Patient Care Services, who worked with the practices to order the tables.
The tables lower automatically to allow patients who use a wheelchair to transfer themselves onto the exam table easily, requiring little or no assistance from staff. Elderly patients, patients with orthopedic and rheumatologic issues and patients who are pregnant also can benefit from these tables.
