BWH’s Student Success Jobs Program (SSJP) received another accolade as it kicked off its tenth year of opening the path to careers in health care, science and medicine to high school students.
During last month’s program orientation day, SSJP was honored with an Afterschool Innovator Award in recognition of the program’s success. Presented by the MetLife Foundation and the Afterschool Alliance, the award is one of only six after-school programs nationwide to be named an Afterschool Innovator.
BWH Community Programs Director Michelle Keenan said it was an honor to be recognized and that the program’s success speaks volumes of the students’ desire and eagerness to learn.
“These students are talented, enthusiastic and serious about making a distinct contribution in health care and science,” Keenan said. “BWH is committed to them and to the patient care and research contributions these young people will make in the future.”
Past SSJP participants returned and talked about the life and job skills they acquired through the program.
“We knew SSJP was a well-deserving recipient for its work, but after being here spending time and listening to students’ stories, we know we hit the nail on the head with this award,” said David Murphy, MetLife managing director, who presented the award.
