The Emergency Department's Yinett Tejada and Michelle Cuddy huddle under an umbrella during the Heart Walk.
BWHers showed their commitment to fighting heart disease as they walked among thousands along the Charles River Esplanade to raise money for cardiovascular research, advocacy and education during the 2009 American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk.
“This year’s support was phenomenal,” said Elizabeth Eagan-Bengston, RN, assistant nurse manager of Shapiro 9 and 10, who led the team along with co-captain Lisa Preston, RN. “Not only are we pretty close to this year’s fund-raising goal, we also recorded the highest number of registered walkers for the team, with nearly 270 people coming out to walk despite the rain.”
Overall, BWH ranked fifth in funds raised among the nearly 50 other companies and organizations that took part in the Sept. 12 event. BWH boasted 31 teams made up of both clinical and administrative staff from all around the hospital. Emergency Medicine was the top fund-raising BWH team, raising nearly $7,000.
With $45,000 pledged so far, the BWH team is close to reaching its goal of $50,000 for the American Heart Association. There’s still time to support the team at http://heartwalk.kintera.org/bostonma/
